Just a 15-minute boat ride from Fingel Point in Tweed Heads is Cook Island Marine Sanctuary, where vast schools of pelagic fish, as well as rays and sharks, abound. Loggerhead and green turtles are common all year round in this turtle sanctuary and bottlenose dolphins pop up, too. Rock caves and coral gardens and depths of up to 18 metres means less experienced divers get to experience a variety of attractions such as schools of taylor, jewfish, leopard and shovelnose sharks, which haunt the area in summer.
To catch the best weather oppertunities, we meet at Tweed early and head out to the rock. 95% of dives have excellent turtle spotting and experiences, along with shoals of cardinalfish, fusiliers and for the macro divers, nudibranchs, crustaceans and all manner of critters.
The dive sites on Cook Island are easily navigatable, so dive guide services are not on offer - however you will be buddied up aboard if you don't bring your own!
Weights are provided for use aboard, everything else is BYO - if you require anything else, please contact the diveshop to arrange hire, along with pickup and dropoff times.
